The twin ships Emden and Dresden were built just prior to WWI and saw most of their success in commerce raiding in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Emden was especially devastating to Russian and British shipping; sinking or capturing a total of 25 vessels, including two warships, in just three months. With home far away and limited supplies available, both the Emden and Dresden were eventually hunted down and destroyed by the British Navy.
