The Six-engine BV222 Wiking or "Viking" was one of the largest flying boats ever constructed. It was designed before WWII as a passenger plane capable of trans-Atlantic flights. For the time, this was a truly staggering distance for a plane to travel. The BV222 was capable of making the trek because of its 151ft (46m) wingspan. During the war, the plane was militarized with gun turrets and used for cargo transport and reconnaissance, roles at which it excelled.
